There are four main types of
furnaces. These are sorted based on their fuel source and include:
- Electric
- Propane
- Oil
- Natural Gas
While the lifespan of a
new AC unit varies based on make and model, most will last between 10 and 15 years. Some systems not subject to heavy, constant use can last over 20 years if properly maintained. That doesn’t mean, however, that you should wait for it to break. Old units are often inefficient and expensive to repair. Being proactive about
AC replacement is a great way to save money on your utility bills.
In the Fitchburg area, we recommend getting your HVAC equipment serviced before the start of each season. In other words,
AC maintenance should be done at the beginning of spring, while
furnace tune-ups are best done in the fall.
A lot of
plumbing problems are easy to spot, but leaks have a tendency to go unnoticed. This is because they often start small and can go unnoticed for months or years. They can also hide under floors, above ceilings, and behind walls, making them more challenging to find. Here are a few signs you may have a leak:
- Rapidly climbing water bills
- Your water meter ticks even when you aren’t using water
- A musty smell or signs of mold become visible
- Discoloration and dampness occurs near tubs and toilets
If you see any of these signs, don’t panic.

If you’re tired of running out of hot water, a
tankless water heater is the way to go. These compact systems also save floor space and help maximize your home’s square footage.
The flapper—a rubber or plastic valve at the base of your toilet tank—is usually responsible for a
running toilet. To see if this is the issue, take off the tank lid and adjust the float arm. The water should stop approximately an inch below the overflow pipe. If the refill water doesn’t reach this level, you need a
new flapper.
